Royal Enfield Silver Plus

Complete details of Silver Plus Motorcycle

Silver Plus is not in production now.

Silver Plus was introduced in the year 1980 by Royal Enfield as a two-seater step-through motorcycle for the Indian market. When it was launched, it became the first step-through motorcycles with gears in India. Unlike foot operated gears of the Explorer (launched along with Silver Plus), it gets hand operated cable link gear shifts. This type of gear shifting was mainly found in Italian scooters. The motorcycle was powered by 65cc, single cylinder, 2-stroke, air-cooled engine with carburettor fuel delivery. The Royal Enfield had developed this two-wheeler with the technical assistance of German motorcycle manufacturer, the Zundapp.

Wrong information that Silver plus was the first step through model in India. First Step through geared motor cycle in India was Jawa Jet 50 cc produced by Ideal Jawa (India), Mysore during 1969. It has 3 gears 1st upwards and 2nd and 3rd downwards by foot and was with fairing. Later a modified version produced in 1975 with 60 cc and with no fairing. During 1985 or 86 Yezdi Colt 60 with same engine but with scooter model hand shifting gears, change in looks, hydraulic shock absorbers instead of coil spring etc was marketed. Moreover there were 3 geared hand gear shifting imported Vickey 50 cc Lambretta 48 with 2 gears (scooterite) were available in early 1960s. Lambretta 48 was a pedal type one with large dia wheels which could be used as bicycle. Lambretta 48 was reintroduced as Laxmi 48 and again during 1980 modified with 2.25x16.00 tyres named as PIZAZ.Bajaj M50 was another 3- geared scooterite step through introduced in early 1980s.
