First Impression Review

Pulsar NS 160 is the latest iteration of the Pulsar series to launch in India. Last year, Bajaj launched this model in some of their international markets such as Turkey, Nepal and Indonesia. The NS160 was launched in July 2017 in India. With this launch, Bajaj has silently replaced the much popular Pulsar 150 from the official line up. The new Pulsar NS 160 shares almost 90% of parts from the elder sibling NS 200.

The Engine and Performance
The new Pulsar NS 160 is powered by a newly developed 160.3cc, oil-cooled, DTS-i engine delivering a maximum power of 15.5 Ps @ 8500 rpm and a peak torque of 14.6 Nm @ 6500 rpm. It is a BS-IV complaint engine with all the standard emission standards. The engine meshes with 5-speed constant mesh gearbox, which is assisted by wet multi-plate clutch. According to Bajaj this 160cc machine is expected to deliver a maximum fuel efficiency of 45 kmpl. With the 12-litre fuel tank on board, the company claims a minimum distance of 540 km with the full tank of fuel. Moreover, there is a healthy part of guidance and support from the KTM Motorcycles of Austria.

The Design, Styling and Features
From a distance, both the NS 160 and NS 200 looks similar. It shares the same perimeter frame, headlamp, handlebar and switchgear, split seats, grab rails and rear cowl. It shares many features with 200 NS and they are; clear lens indicators, underbelly exhaust, stylish split seats, viscous type air filter and LCD speedometer console.

The 160 NS moniker has been inscribed on the fuel tank extension in a new attractive fashion. It is available in white, red and blue paint jobs with the combination of black.

Chassis, Suspension and Braking
Like the RS 200 and NS 200, this one too is constructed on perimeter frame chassis. This lightweight frame has improved the dynamics of the Bajaj bikes from the past days. They are agile and quicker with confident cornering capabilities.

The Conclusion
The new Bajaj Pulsar 160 NS competes with Honda CB Hornet 160R, Suzuki Gixxer and Yamaha FZ series. The 160 segment become super interested with the launch of all new Pulsar. We are yet to test ride this vehicle and therefore we are not sure about its capabilities. Altogether, it is an interesting addition from the Pune-based two-wheeler maker.
