Launched in India in October 2015.

Bajaj Avenger 220 is the same Avenger Street 220 with some cosmetic changes. It is closest to the classical cruiser look among the 3 new variants.

The Avenger Cruise 220 offers more cruise like riding feel for the rider. One of the core reason for reintroducing this motorbike by Bajaj is to expand their market to a wider audience. From the technical point of view, nothing has changed from the Street variant.

It has some notable cosmetic changes in many fields. Avenger Cruise has an ergonomic changes in its handle bar when compared to the predecessors, which gives a more cruiser looks to this motorcycle. From the Street 220 this one has used more chrome in many areas. Some of the additions in new Cruise 220 are; low sung seat, long wheelbase, new windshield and of all the new swept back handle bars which give a distinct traditional character to this motorcycle. Along with new insignia, fuel tank bears flashy chrome decals.

This Cruiser bike has a blue back lit digital meter along with an analogue speedometer. Other than that it has a softer seat, wider rear tyre, redesigned mirrors, spoked chrome wheels and a chrome cover for the oil cooler. This bike is available in Divine Black color and Desert Gold paint schemes.

First Impression Review

The Cruise 220 is a cosmetic upgrade of the Avenger Street 220 to make it look more like a highway cruiser. What makes the Street and the Cruise 220 different is mainly in the cosmetic department.

Bajaj Avenger Cruise 220

The newly designed handlebar for the Cruise 220 that is designed to make highway cruising and long rides more easy and comfortable than ever. Bajaj hasn't made any mechanical changes in the cruise and the specifications remain the same for the Cruise and the Street 220.

Design and Style

The Cruise 220 gets a chrome touchup at many parts and also comes with a windshield which provides the rider with a more secure riding as it blocks away harsh winds, dust and other particles while riding. Bajaj had provided a new low-slung seat along with a comfortable pillion backrest to make the rider as well as the pillion comfortable during long rides. The Cruiser style swept back handlebars alters from the ergonomics showcased by the Street 220, and this has been done to make long rides easier and comfortable, along with that, an all-new insignia of the Avenger with a chrome touch up also gives the bike a distinct look and feel.

Bajaj Avenger Cruise 220

To make the Cruise 220 more distinct in look and style, a classic Analog Meter is given. The Analogue meter showcases a simple odometer along with a small digital cluster showcasing various information required for the rider. The Analogue meter looks classic and trendy and the Bajaj logo inside the cluster completes its design cues.

Engine & Performance

The Avenger Cruise 220 comes equipped with a powerful 220cc Twin spark, 2 valves, DTS-i engine which is capable of producing 19.03 PS of power @ 8400 rpm and a 17.5 Nm torque @ 7000 rpm. The engine comes mated to a 5-speed constant mesh gearbox. Bajaj uses the same 220cc engine in the Pulsar series as well, but in the Cruise 220, the engine underwent some tweaks in its performance to give away a cruise experience.

Bajaj Avenger Cruise 220

The 220cc engine performs well at all speeds, and provide a good amount of power to take it around the highways and in and around the city. To make the engine more stable and also to make it remain in the working temperature, Bajaj has provided oil cooled technology. This will make sure that the engine scales more miles without heating up very easily.

Chasis, Suspension & Braking

The Cruise 220 uses the same Tubular Double Cradle Type chassis seen on the Avenger Street 220. The chassis gives this bike a good handling and riding experience and holds the bike together. The suspension setup is done with a Telescopic with anti-friction bush at the front and a Twin shock absorber at the rear. Bajaj has given Alloy Wheels to the cruiser 220 and this can be seen in all Avenger models.

Bajaj Avenger Cruise 220

The braking of the Cruise 220 comes with 260 mm Disc brakes at the front and a 130 mm drum brakes at the rear. The Cruise 220 has enough stopping power combined with the disc brakes and the drum brakes. The Front Tyres of the bike comes with a 90/90 - 17 49P measurement and the rear tyre comes with a measurement of 130/90 - 15 66P. The Cruise 220 has a Ground Clearance of 169 mm and comes with a petrol tank capacity of 14 litres with 3.5 litres as the reserve. The overall weight of the bike comes at 155 kg, and the Cruise 220 is the heaviest of the Avenger models.

Final Words
Bajaj has decently customised the Street 220 to look like a cruiser that can be within the budget range of a normal Indian. The Cruiser characteristics and seat position are on the bright side, along with the new handlebars, low-slung seat, wider tyres and a redefined cruiser handlebar. But Bajaj could have given the Cruiser 220 disc brakes at the rear, and this is a downside. Moreover, Bajaj hasn't done anything new on the mechanical side as well when compared it with the Sreet 220. However, the new Styling, handlebars and the pillion backrest are good upgrades that a good cruiser must have and the Cruiser 220 tick that boxes very well.
