Updated Bajaj Avenger Confirmed

MD & CEO Rajiv Bajaj has confirmed of the launch of an updated Avenger by Q3 of 2015-2016

Speaking to media sources, the Managing Director and CEO of Bajaj Auto, Mr Rajiv Bajaj confirmed about the launch of the updated Bajaj Avenger, which will hit Indian markets by the third quarter of this financial year (2015-2016).

Currently, the Avenger uses the 220cc, single-cylinder engine, the same as that on the Pulsar 220F with a five-speed gearbox. The major update with the new Avenger would be the engine department – a 199.5cc engine borrowed from the 200NS will be powering the bike. Although lagging in terms of displacement, the engine has been tuned and modified, thanks to the partnership with KTM, to produce 23.5 PS of power and 18.3 Nm of Torque, compared to the 19.03 PS power and 17.5 Nm of Torque the 220 cc engine had made. The new engine would be paired to a six-speed gearbox. Further clarification on engine performance is to be expected, since the Avenger belongs to the Cruiser segment, it could receive a few tweaks.

The Avenger, in its class, virtually has no competition. The Royal Enfields belong to a class above, with their product range starting from 350cc and upwards. What makes the Avenger distinct then, is the affordability, performance and also being a daily rider; considering the fact that nothing much has changed on the bike, it still sells well and volumes are what Bajaj is looking at. However, the proposed move by Bajaj to introduce new changes to the bike should see a better reception from its audience.

We will have to wait and see to gain further updates regarding the changes to be seen on the motorcycle as well as the price details. Watch out for this space.
