Harley Davidson sets a target of ten fold sales in India by 2016

The strength of HD bikes in India has been increasing slowly but steadily, and the US bike major has registered sale of 1k units ever since the bikes were launched 2 years back in 2010. Harley Davidson India takes the steady fan following from the Indian biker enthusiasts for the iconic American bike with great surprise but still has set for itself the target of increasing sale of bikes to 10 times by 2015-16, which is 10k units a year.

The company looks at India as a big player in the Asia-Pacific market and is analyzing the demand for super bikes in the sub continent. It has actually reset its sales target for the fiscal year of 2012 by two times. It should be noted that the target is set in spite of an increase in the tax, which came into effect from April 2012. The company believes tax increase hasn't changed the demand for the Harley bikes.

The company also plans to expand its dealer network in the current fiscal in Kolkata, Jaipur and Kochi. This will bloat the dealer network to 10 by 2012. The company also sets a target of doubling its footprint to 20 by 2016.
