2.9% decline reported in Indonesian 2 wheeler sales in January

Indonesia the world's third largest two wheeler market saw decline in the sales of two wheelers in the month of January. There were total 645,863 units of two wheelers were sold in the month of January 2012 which is down by 2.9% compared to January 2011 as reported by Indonesian Motorcycle Industry Association (AISI).

Like in India, many global brands are eying on Indonesia as they are such a fast growing market. However the sales is up by 40.2% compared to December 2011 when 460,355 two wheelers were sold.



Honda (Astra Honda) the largest two wheeler manufacturer in Indonesia sold more than 382,635 units in the month of January 2012 up by 15.4% compared to last year. But in over all figure, this growth is not been reflected.

The automatic scooter accounted for 53% of total sales. Honda is the only major two wheeler manufacturer which has reported sales growth in the January 2012 in Indonesia. The second largest two wheeler manufacturer Yamaha reported sales of 205,304 units which is down on year on year basis, however up by 54% month on month basis.
