Piaggio Vespa showcased at Expo and plans to launch a scooter in April

The Italian auto maker Piaggio which showcased Vespa and Aprilia products at the Auto Show is upbeat on the prospects for the Vespa gearless scooter which is scheduled to hit the roads in April this year.

"I will be surprised if after six months of operations, we are not forced to double annual capacity to 300,000 units. Demand is going to outstrip supply and we should not be wanting in creating capacity." said Mr.Ravi Chopra, Chairman and Managing Director of the Indian operations.

They claims that Vespa is not a scooter and hence they are looking forward to create a new genre and market. The Vespa will be placed at a premium slot which means it could be priced upwards of Rs 60,000. Piaggio will have exclusive dealerships in top metros before spreading the across the country as demand grows.

According to reports, also part of the Piaggio is Aprilia, who displayed the RSV-4 Factory superbike. The RSV-4 Factory is powered by a 999.6cc V4 motor that produces 180 bhp. The RSV-4 has been on sale in the country since a few months now. Let us hope Piaggio initiatives will work out successfully.
