Since the year 1968, Metro tyres has been active in the market for making bicycle tyres, now after having an agreement with Continental tyres, they are now coming up with tubeless tyres. Metro tyres currently has a few models of tyres for motorcycles and scooters but tubeless tyres is a new project for the company.
With Continental AG of Germany, Metro Tyres will develop and design tubeless tyres for motorcycles having some technical collaboration with them. With an investment of INR 30 cr, new plant for the production is set up at Punjab. Hopefully this tie up will do good for the old company.
For bulk selling of tyres, they realised the fact that, an agreement is necessary with OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers). In order to fulfill this need, the Metro Tyres is in the process of hunting companies who observed the demand for their products.
The overall 10-12 per cent growth in motorcycle sales and around 29 percent growth in export sales are together paving way and remain as potential reasons to create this demand for tubeless tyres. The tyres from Metro is intended to hit the foreign market where the continental tyres have good market.
