Honda's New Motocompacto E-Scooter: Transforming Short-Distance Urban Travel with Eco-Friendly Design

In a bold move to redefine short-distance travel, Honda unveils its Motocompacto mini e-scooter. Priced at $995, the portable e-scooter aims to solve last-mile commute problems in an eco-friendly way. But what sets this Honda invention apart in a bustling electric vehicle market? Let’s find out.



Honda is no stranger to innovation. The Motocompacto e-scooter draws inspiration from the fuel-powered micro motorcycles the company released in the 1980s. This time, however, Honda went electric, contributing to the reduction of carbon emissions.



Weighing just 19 kg, the Motocompacto is incredibly portable, yet it packs a punch with its 6.8Ah battery and 490-watt electric motor. The scooter produces a maximum torque of 16 Nm and boasts a top speed of 24 km/h.



The scooter's battery takes approximately 3.5 hours to charge from 0 to 100%. Interestingly, the battery seems to be integrated into the scooter's build, with no option for removal. Charging the scooter is a breeze; all it takes is a regular 15-amp socket.





The true charm of the Motocompacto lies in its foldable design. When not in use, the scooter condenses into a manageable size that closely resembles advanced travel luggage. Both the handlebar and seat disappear neatly into the scooter’s structure. LED headlights and taillights provide essential visibility during nighttime rides.



Honda plans to further elevate the user experience by introducing a mobile application compatible with Android and Apple devices. The app will offer an array of functionalities, such as ride customization, real-time battery status, and GPS navigation.



Retailing for $995 in the USA, which translates to about Rs 83,000, the Motocompacto may not be the cheapest option available. However, Honda aims to offer more features in future updates, justifying the somewhat premium price tag.
