Versys 650 is the scaled down version of Kawasaki's adventure tourer class motorcycle Versys 1000. All the design features of 650 are similar to their elder sibling, 1000. Like other adventure bikes, this too is built for all roads. The design of Versys 650 is totally functional. Styling of the bike focuses on aerodynamics, air flow management and the upright rider seat for off-roading and long distance commuting. But the speciality of this tourer is, it can be day to day commuter and a cross country expedition vehicle as well.
The twin headlamps mounted on the fairing and tall adjustable wind shield steals away all the first look of Versys. On coming to the rear section, the double pipe from the sub frame is nearly exposed to give a rugged feel to the motorcycle. The long travel suspension is made of adjustable 41mm Showa forks at the front and KYB monoshock for rear section. An 840mm of seat height seems a bit awkward, but it gives a firm control over the motorcycle and high level of comfort.
Versys is powered by a 649cc liquid-cooled parallel twin engine, which is mounted on an updated chassis borrowed from Ninja 650. The engine delivers 68 bhp power and 64 Nm torque, and is mated with a six speed transmission box.
The Versys faces competition from Triumph Tiger XR and Benelli TNT 600GT.

The Versys 650 is a very purpose friendly motorcycle from Kawasaki. This true sports looking bike showcase sharp new looks that give it a stronger Kawasaki identity. The Versys 650 is a very versatile package that is fun to ride mainly because of its functional and sporty looking appearance, balanced style, wind protection, aerodynamics and airflow management. The Versys 650 has a very aerodynamic upper cowl that features a horizontally split design that reinforces the compact and sporty image. The front fender with its aggressive new design also contributes to a strong design quality of this motorcycle.
The Versys 650 comes with an adjustable windscreen which helps to reduce wind noise and helmet buffeting and allows the rider to enjoy fast speeds without any hindrance. Th position of the foot-pegs offers a more relaxed position and along with the upright riding position gives the Versys an edge when it comes to long rides.
A 649 cc Liquid-cooled, 4-stroke Parallel Twin engine forms the powerplant of the Versys 650. The engine is fuel injected and uses a 6-speed gearbox. The engine produces a maximum power of 69 PS @ 8,500 rpm and a maximum torque 64 N.m @ 7,000 rpm.
A high-tensile steel Diamond chassis forms the frame of this bike and uses inverted telescopic fork with adjustable rebound damping (right-side) and adjustable preload with ø41 mm travel. The rear suspension makes uses of an Offset laydown single-shock with remote spring preload adjustability. The suspension setup of the bike is made to make the motorcycle conquer highways and long distance travel at higher speeds without breaking a sweat and also at the same time providing superior comfort to the rider and the pillion.The braking system of the bike is done with Dual semi-floating ø300 mm petal discs at the front with dual piston calipers while the rear braking system comes with Single ø250 mm petal disc along with Single-piston calipers.
The Versys 650 has a very good ground clearance of 170 mm and the seat height of the bike comes at 840 mm. Kawasaki has given a very big fuel tank of 21 Litres and this makes the Versys 650 has a very riding good range, for long distance riders this will be a boon. The overall curb mass of the Versys 650 comes at 216 kg.
