What is the engine life of a motorcycle? How many kilometers can a bike or scooter engine run before it is not usable at all? Does it depend on the engine displacement? And if we repair the engine and replace some parts, can we use it again rather than giving to to scrap dealers?

According to me the lifespan of a motorcycle depends on how you treat the bike with regular oil top ups and proper refurbishments. The warranty period of a two-wheeler usually runs out with 2 to 5 years and they doesn't say much about the actual lifespan of an engine in figures. There are 'n' number of motorcycles around us with odometer clocked at 1 lakh kilometers. This doesn't means that all the bikes or scooters are supposed to be used only for 1 lakh kilometers or to the odometer limits.

Factors determining the lifespan of a motorcycle.
1) Regular oil check-up and top ups.
2) Refurbishment at certain period of time. This can be done whenever the engine starts making the indications.
3) Use original spare parts.
4) Engine overhauling should be done by a well expert.
5) Reboring the cylinder and using engine sleeves are one of the many methods used to keep the engine sustained for many kilometers.

The capacity of the engine also plays a vital role in determining the engine life. Cylinder reboring is usually done with higher capacity engines and it is not suitable for engines under 125cc. That is why the lifespan of scooters are comparatively low from the motorcycles with gears.
