The NMAX scooter has already been launched in markets across the world but with a 125cc engine. It hasn't however made it to the Indian market, and as of now, Yamaha India continues its scooter line-up in the country with a rather outdated engine and not-so-promising looks and styling. The NMAX might give the Indian scooter segment a new ruler of the roost, and as many of the buyers are now looking at performance oriented two-wheelers, the scooter segment should see a change in choice, too. The NMAX is a performance oriented scooter and will be competing directly against the likes of Honda's PCX 150 and Hero's Zir. Both these scooters haven't been launched in India, yet.

The NMAX 125 that's available in other markets has a 125cc, four-stroke engine, producing 9kW of power and 11.7Nm of Torque. Other goodies include a full disc-brake set up, ABS as standard, wider tires, high and comfortable riding position, fully digital instrument console, loads of under seat space. The 155cc engine is said to generate 15bhp of power and 14,4Nm of Torque. Although it is still unclear whether Yamaha would be going for the launch, expect the scooter to arrive not later than 2017.
