The BMW S 1000 XR is an all rounder motorcycle, which was showcased at 2014 EICMA Festival. This motorcycle is based on the naked version of the Motorrad superbike S 1000 RR, which is the S 1000 R. This adventure sports bike is the fourth iteration of the inline-four cylinder from the Bavarian brand to take the spot on the roads. Here, BMW has created an adventure sports bike with the dynamism and appeal of the S 1000RR and the practicality of the GS. It synthesis sports, touring and adventure.
It gets the 999cc, liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, in-line-4 cylinder with DOHC. The engine is mated to a six-speed gearbox and delivers a maximum power of 165 bhp and peak torque of 114 Nm. This motorcycle meets the Euro-4 emission norms and can past reach 200+ kmph. The 'XR' is constructed from aluminium composite bridge frame with a partially self-supporting engine. It features USD telescopic 46 mm fork at the front and aluminium 2-sided swing arm at the rear. The cast aluminium wheels of the XR enhances its off-roading nature.

The BMW S 1000 XR produces a maximum power of 160 bhp at 11,000 rpm from its 999 cc Liquid-cooled 4-stroke inline 4-cylinder engine and produces a maximum torque of 83 lb-ft at 9,250 rpm. The engine management of the bike is done with Electronic fuel injection with ride-by-wire throttle system and knock sensor. BMW has given two selectable driving modes as standard − "Rain" and "Road" – allowing riders to adapt optimally to riding conditions. The standard ASC (Automatic Stability Control) ensures a high level of riding safety based on optimum traction. The motorcycle has a top speed of above 200 km/h.
An Aluminum bridge-type frame is used in the making of this bike with the load-bearing engine. The suspension setup of the bike comes with Upside-down telescopic fork, Ø 46 mm, compression and rebound stage adjustable at the front and an Aluminum 2-sided swing arm, rebound damping adjustable at the rear. The braking system of the bike comes with Single disc brake, diameter 265 mm with dual- piston floating calliper at the rear while the front braking system comes with Dual floating disc brakes, 4-piston fixed callipers with diameter 320 mm. BMW has given BMW Motorrad Race ABS which is part-integral and can be switched off as per the needs of the rider. The fully fueled motorcycle comes at a wet weight of 228 kg.
