Importing used bike from usa

Hi, iam planning to import a used yamaha R1 bike from usa, so what will be the customs duty tax on the used vehicle. In which way the customs duty is levied on the bike,
depending on the original cost of the bike or the cost of the bike which i buyed.
And what will be tax percentages?

Its better to buy a new Yamaha YZF-R1 which is available in India.

According to the 2012 budget, imported bicycles will also become more expensive as customs duty has been hiked to 30 per cent from 10 per cent, while the same for bicycle parts has been increased to 20 per cent from 10 per cent.

Customs duty for importing Used Motorcycles:
Basic duty: 100%
Addl. Duty: 16.32%
Total Duty: 142.64%

You can only import a bike under TR if you've owned the bike under your possession for more than a year.

A resident Indian can import a new bike only if it is over 800cc and provide customs with the Type Approval Certificate (provided by the manufacturer) and a couple of emission control certificates that comply with Euro III norms.

An overwhelming 99% of import bikes in India are brought down via the “transfer of residence” route, wherein an Indian, living abroad for a certain period of time, is allowed to bring back the vehicle that he was using there (for a reduced percentage of duty). Under the “Transfer or residence” route, the vehicle cannot be sold for 2 years from the time of registering it in India.

Therefore, the first step is to verify the age of the bike and ensure that it is more than 2 years since it has been brought into the country. Remember, it doesn't matter how old the bike is; it is the date of registration in India that is to be considered. This important step ensures that the superbike can be registered in your name.
