Bajaj Pulsar 220cc DTSi - The furious bike now becomes the fastest

The fastest bike for all bike enthusiasts is in the new Bajaj Pulsar 220cc DTSi.

Bajaj Auto already has a strong presence in the two-wheeler segment, but with the latest upgrades and further new launches it looks like the auto giant is certainly eyeing for top spot in the market.

As regards Pulsar, it seem to have been one model that received greater attention and so we see its evolution to better bike models which promise to deliver enhanced performance coupled with cutting-edge technology. The 2009 Bajaj Pulsar model has only proved the fact and raised the bar of premium segment motorcycles in the two-wheeler industry.

The new Pulsar 220cc DTSi bike comes with sporty styling and aerodynamic design, with all-new looks, a metallic Pulsar logo and in attractive black theme with carbon fiber diffuser, is ready for a strong tug of war with the Yamahas R15 and the FZ16s.

The black theme of the new Pulsar 220cc DTSi certainly has gotten the killer looks and these are further accentuated with clip-on handle bars and a new console background. The looks of Pulsar have undergone polishing and refinement ever since Pulsar rolled on to the Indian roads. This one will certainly appeal to many.

In the 220cc bike segment, Pulsar generates top speed of 140kmph, making it the fastest Indian bike.

Bajaj substantiates this; the enhanced performance is due to the 32 venturi carburetor dispensing off the fuel injector of the new Pulsar 220 DTSi model. This 220cc bike is also equipped with a large resonator and catalytic converter for absorption of noxious gases that helps it adhere to the pollution norms. Furthermore, the fuel efficiency of the new Pulsar 220cc is enhanced.

Pulsar 220

The machine delivers a power output of 21.04 PS and abundant torque is available so you can cruise through the curve. The beastly machine comes with new piston that improves engine performance, a modified combustion chamber for maximum combustion, a larger air-cooler system with improved ignition. The improved ignition system ensures smooth and immediate start of the bike, faster warm up and so improved torque.

The tires are tubeless and soft enabling smooth riding experience and the improved clutch system enables smooth gear shift and there is also new gearbox. This well-behaved new 220cc Pulsar can go from 0 to 60 kmph speed in 3.8 seconds. One really needs to ride the new Pulsar 220cc to believe it and enjoy the fastest bike riding experience.

All these come with great value for money as Bajaj auto has pegged the price of the latest Pulsar 220cc DTSi at Rs.70,000 (ex-showroom Delhi). A performance bike at this pricing will surely bowl over any bike enthusiast.

Hi Dear Friends,

My self Rahul Khanna (age 23years) I am working as Subject Matter Expert in Wipro Solutions Ltd.
I would like to share my experience with Pulsar 220 dtsi, which I bought last year
Though I was planning to buy it on 27th January (My Birthday) but due to unavailability of Black color I had to postpone it for further 3days and finally on 31st January 2010 I owned my first hard earned PULSAR 220 DTSI

Believe it or not, you will fall in love with this bike. Pulsar as promulgated by Bajaj; keeps its promise and delivers the same. I was always fascinated towards bike and want to have one.
The day I decided to purchase bike I was very excited then begins the series of googling  about various bikes and various aspects like performance, design, price and above all mileage.
On roads like we have in India, we need to be very cautious while purchasing bike or any other vehicle as roads are not even everywhere.

So after exploring and consulting I ended up in tie between Yamaha Fazer and Pulsar 220 Dtsi
Here are some key points for which I opted Pulsar 220 Dtsi over Yamaha Fazer are:-

Engine: - Pulsar 220 Dtsi comes with 220cc engine while Yamaha Fazer have 153.5cc engine
(Price for Pulsar 220 Dtsi was 76K appox, Price for Yamaha Fazer 74k appox, in Delhi)
So, for almost equal price on Pulsar I am getting more cc bike and assurance of our own Indian Bike

Power: - PULSAR 220 DTSI comes with 21 Bhp @ 8500 rpm & torque 19.12 Nm @ 7000 rpm
Whereas, YAMAHA FAZER 14bhp @ 7500 rpm & torque 14Nm @ 5000 rpm

Durability: - I test drived PULSAR 220 DTSI and YAMAHA FAZER

Both bikes were muscular and good in handling but Lack of "Leg Guard" in YAMAHA FAZER was the point of concern both for the rider as well as for the bike itself

I call it "Mustang"

I named my PULSAR 220 DTSI as "Mustang" and I really love this name, even my friends would call it by the same 

Here are some special features and specification which make PULSAR 220 DTSI really "The Fastest Indian"

The Design
On the flip side, the attractive fairing-mounted mirrors reflect little other than the rider's elbows. The backlit switchgear feels perfect to the touch and is totally contact-free, also featuring self-cancelling turn indicators. Grips and brake and clutch levers are adequate.
A contact-free digital speedometer drive displays precise speeds in a digital read-out. An engine-redline flasher strobes out its communication when the bike is over-revved; the same light doubles up as a low-fuel warning icon. The stepped seats are adequately padded for both rider and pillion and ends in a smart two-piece grab bar. Angular side panels and a smooth tail fairing add panache, as do strips of nifty LED brake warning lights.

Engine and power train
The 220cc oil cooled, Digital Twin Spark Fuel Injection (DTS FI) engine produces an awesome power of 20PS at 8500rpm (As a matter of fact, pulsar 220cc is more powerful than thunderbird  ) and an incredible torque of 19.12Nm at 6500rpm. Pulsar 220cc features the standard five-speed gearbox with one down and four up pattern.
Thanks to the fuel injection for the gentle release of power, this enables smoother acceleration, also minimal power loss while shifting gears. Pulsar DTS-Fi can reach 60kph in 4.4 seconds and can past 110kph in 18.8sec. Pulsar 220cc can reach a top speed of 131kph (WOW Factor!!). Not alone this top speed is impressive; you can easily maintain the pulsar 220cc in 100 -115kph. Though the fuel efficiency/mileage depends on riding behaviour you can expect anything more than 35kpl from pulsar 220cc DTS FI.

Ride and handling
The wheelbase has been lengthened to 1,350 mm from 1,330 of the older Pulsar, along with a new swing arm. Pulsar 220cc DTS-Fi uses telescopic forks at the front and Gas-charged twin shocks are used at the rear. This high performance bike is the India's first bike to have a rear disc brake although this will help for the effective control; safety in Indian conditions is yet to be seemed.
The tyres of the new DTS-Fi are tubeless and hence offer an exciting riding experience. Overall, the body of the motorcycle still looks like the Pulsar family, but with sharper edges. The front faring is the difference - It is well integrated into the rest of the bodywork, and the sidelights and indicators look excellent. We expect the Pulsar DTS-Fi to get around 45 kmpl.

Special features
Pulsar 200cc also leaves its drive chain exposed with O' ring sealed, which is pre-lubricated to help it stay reliable inspite of running open without protection is one such example. Similar to its sibling Pulsar 220cc-soon to be launched, the pulsar 200cc bike throws away the kick lever and makes you to crank the engine only with your thumb unlike other Bikes, which offers both self, and Kick mechanism for cranking.
Hot in 220cc pulsar
In 220cc Pulsar the most important feature of all is the fuel injection mechanism, which is responsible for the quick throttle and the linear power curve. The Bajaj Pulsar DTS-Fi is the first Indian motorcycle with an oil-cooled engine. Together, they make for a potent combination.
Bajaj Pulsar 220 Technical Specification:
