TVS Scooty Pep+ and TVS Apache RTR 180 ABS coming soon

Braced up for some more bike scooter launches? Then you might cheer at this. South-based TVS Motor Company has announced an update on their upcoming launches- in a few months from now a facelift received TVS Scooty Pep+ and TVS Apache 180 RTR ABS will be rolled out.

The Vice President (Marketing) from TVS Motor Company Mr. H. Goindi said in a statement that the company has planned to refresh launch TVS Scooty Pep+ and Apache RTR with ABS. According to the VP the TVS Scooty Pep+ has undergone some cosmetic treatment (he declined to add any more details to this) and Apache RTR 180 would be relaunched with ABS addition, speed sensors, hydraulic ECU (Electronic Control Unit), and a Rear Wheel lift-off Protection (RLP) system with everything else retained the same.

Scooty has been the flagship brand for TVS and has been so popular with the weaker sex. The brand has been embraced equally well by city riders as well as all those who wanted a budget light-weight, simple family scooter.

Honda Activa has been ruling the roost (scooter segment ever since it was launched) and TVS Scooty Streak hasn't become as much popular as the company had hoped for. There is also news that Yamaha too has some scooter launches this year that kind of adds more heat element to already hot segment. So this is time for bring old fame to TVS, Scooty Pep+ revamped could probably do that for the auto major. The new facelift received Scooty Pep+ if it can appeal to unisex riders then the Activa will have some serious competition ahead.

TVS Scooty Pep Plus

Scooty Pep+ is empowered by 90cc engine which will fork out about 5.4 Nm peak torque @ 4000 rpm and produces maximum power of 5 bhp @ 6500 rpm. The top speed achievable on the Scooty is 75 kmph although the scooter wobbles and kind of loses on stability after crossing 50 kmph itself.

Mileage of >50 kmpl has been another let down for an under 100cc scooter and if these things are addressed besides some cosmetic uplifts it should be good for a re-launch and worthwhile for customers.

While there are also rumors about TVS Velocity 160 launch in the auto circles, TVS has not come in open about the new model.

The Velocity 160cc had been unveiled at Jakarta Auto Show, Indonesia, recently and the bike is speculated to be powered by Apache 160cc engine and the styling and design taking some resemblance of Yamaha FZ 16 with naked fairing and FZ 16 resembling headlamp and shrouds of the fuel tank. But the upside forks in the front, petal disc brake in the front and wider rear tyre and sporty exhaust all are eye candy features in the Velocity 160cc. Apache fans believe Velocity will be the right call for ousting FZ 16 and Honda CBR250.

TVS Apache RTR 180 ABS

There are whispers that the TVS Motor Company could come out with 3 launches at the same time: the facelift treated Scooty Pep+, Apache RTR 180 ABS and the TVS Velocity 160cc although you should expect that the fully loaded Velocity will come with premium price tag of more than Rs. 75k.

According to industry sources, the ABS version of TVS Apache RTR 180 will cost an additional Rs. 8000 making the cost of the bike approximately Rs. 80,000.
