Kinetic Italiano Blaze 165cc – No Nonsense Ace

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

The 165cc Kinetic Italiano Blaze, this bike (err…motoscooter) has joined the Indian auto stable about 3 years back (April 2007) and it’s been blazing ever since on the Indian roads. It’s a blow in the face of boredom on the Indian roads and that’s the only thing that sets blazers apart from Activa or Dio scooter riders.

Kinetic Blaze is also India’s first motoscooter that won 5 product awards for the year 2006-07 Scooter of the Year from Overdrive, BS Motoring and also the NDTV Car and Bike; Two-wheeler design of the year from BBC Top Gear as well as NID (National Institute of Design) Buisness World.

Kinetic Italiano Blaze with its super size is obviously the biggest, the tallest and the longest motoscooter that has seen on the Indian roads.

As for looks of the Kinetic Blaze, you got to love it or hate it, just that simple. The bold this-is-no-average-scooter looks may not appeal to all; but it surely makes heads turn and if not for the Italian design at least for the bold colors and even bolder size. The large and monstrous proportions are noticeable even from quite a distance. A big majority of people agree that the Kinetic Italiano Blaze looks great. Some might dislike too much of plasticky looks and the company had to go for the plastics to cut down on the cost. Well, if you are a performance lover, give a heck to this.

The side panels look neatly sculpted with huge grab bar. The under seat storage is decent if not the best and there is a lockable glove box, as well as foldable bag hook and flat floorboard.

As for ergonomics, the riders’ seat appears quite ergonomic and comfortable and cushions the bums for that long drive. The seat intended for pillion may not be comfortable for women as it is quite high and it might be a daunting task for anyone short to get on to the seat. If you are taking a trapeze artiste behind Blaze, it wouldn’t be a noticeable difficulty. This small issue though would not deter any prospective buyer.

Engine:
Kinetic Italiano Blaze runs on a
165.12cc, one-cylinder, air-cooled, 4-stroke, petrol engine
Maximum power: 11.6bhp @7500 rpm
Maximum torque: 1.2kgm @ 5000rpm

Performance :
It hits a top speed of about 110kmph and accelerates 0-60 kmph in 9.29seconds
Mileage: 30-34 kmpL

Kinetic Italiano Blaze has some unique features that sets it apart from any commuter scooter.

• It runs on a powerful 165cc mill that generates a power of 11.6 bhp
• The engine sports superior 4-valve technology
• The suspension is advanced to offer great comfort on any terrain (while the front suspension is telescopic there is a twin rear suspension to offer additional stability)
• Huge seat for rider and pillion for extra seating comfort
• High ground clearance gives it a ride pleasure close to a bike (the scooter was built on extra size, a 1495mm wheelbase and it kind of beats the dust of many bikes)
• The gear transmission is automatic to offer convenient riding
• The electric start (with also the kick start) makes it convenient for today’s riding
• The scooter comes with disc (optional for front) and the drum brakes

Kinetic Blaze comes priced about 55,000 and on road it comes close to 60,000 but for the amount you are setting the roads on blaze and painting the town red. If you are looking for something stylish and has power up its sleeves to beat 100cc commuter bikes and scooters then you don’t have to look further, the Blaze is one for you. Additionally, this is not the one if you too picky about FE and mileage. If you prefer power and style to fuel economy, Blaze is for you. Finally, the “Catch Me If You Can” sticker lives to it. So go get on your rider’s gloves and jacket to set the roads ablaze.

The recently ended 10th edition of International Auto Expo New Delhi was embraced by auto makers around the world, and Indian two-wheeler manufacturers left no stone unturned and have showcased their new product line up and high-tech products to the auto connoisseurs. The two-wheeler behemoths that took part at the Auto Expo and added gleam and glam at the 10th Auto Expo include: TVS Motors, Royal Enfield, Hero Honda, Bajaj Auto, Yamaha, Suzuki, Honda, Harley Davidson, Mahindra 2 Wheelers, BSA Motors, Hero Electric, Ultra Motors, Yo Bykes, Vibgyor Vehicles, Emmel Vheelers, Tara International, etc.

This article we will discuss about the Mahindra coverage as regards the two wheeler segment. Their pavilion span across 2,000 sq. m. rocked at the 10th Auto Expo 2010, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.

Mahindra has a distinction of being the only Indian automobile company to straddle the road transport ecosystem they showcased wide array of vehicles which included two wheelers, three wheelers, Sports Utility Vehicles, Utility vehicles, Light Commercial Vehicles and trucks. The products showcased echoed the company’s commitment to embrace future technology, innovative automotive solutions while respecting the environment.

Especially, 2009 has been that milestone year for Mahindra & Mahindra as it forayed into the highly competitive two-wheeler market.

The company already made a buzz in the market with new marketing strategies after acquiring the Kinetic Engg. And, should their commitment for addressing consumer interests is well received by Indian consumers, they will in sometime assume a significant place in the fast-growing Indian as well as the global two-wheeler segment.

Mahindra & Mahindra showcased some exciting products at the Auto Expo 2010. The Mahindra 2 Wheelers displayed 2-stroke 125cc concept scooter and a 4-stroke racing-concept 125 cc bike in addition to their selling domestic range of scooters the Mahindra Flyte, Mahindra Duro and the Mahindra Rodeo.

Mahindra concept bike

The Mahindra concept bike looked amazing to say the least and has a 125cc power mill which can generate a maximum power and torque of 53 bhp (you’ve read that right) and 32 Nm, respectively. The bike has electric start option and should the specs displayed be believed the bike can touch max speed of 245 kmph; well that means faster than the fastest.

The bike sports digital console and features Brembo brake system in the front and the rear (they are actually mono disc type). As regards the suspension the front is an inverted Paioli fork and the rear a monoshock Paioli fork. With a big fuel tank (13.5-liter capacity) the bike has a wide 1245mm wheel base. Definitely the bike is worth looking forward to.

As for the Mahindra 2 Wheelers concept scooter, it runs on a 2-stroke engine which has 124cc displacement. The engine churns power of 8 hp and generates 9 Nm of peak torque. The scooter is claimed to touch 120kmph of maximum speed. Both the front and the rear are fitted with mono disc type brakes. The scooter has a 7-liter petrol tank and it has auto start and kick start options with automatic transmission drive in its kitty.

The scooter as such looks like a radically styled one and a little offbeat too, but should Mahindra2Wheelers start production of their concept machines, they should well drive away Pulsars and Apaches off the Indian roads; so handsful of work for the new kid in the 2-wheeler market

M&M in talks with Italian 2-wheeler major Malaguti Moto

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

NEW DELHI: Mahindra & Mahindra is sniffing around for deals but this time it’s in the two-wheeler segment. The utility and tractor major, which recently picked up Kinetic’s two-wheeler business for Rs 120 crore, is reportedly in talks with Italian motorcycle and scooter maker Malaguti Moto for a possible takeover.

The family-owned Malaguti has strong connections with Ducati—just a couple of months ago its Phantom F12R became the Ducati Corse Superbike under arrangement with Ducati. Part of the famed Italian two-wheeler brigade that included Aprilia, Beta Benelli, Italjet and Piaggio, Malaguti has some top-end products in the 250cc range which could be of interest to M&M for its moto foray.

M&M is also in talks with several Chinese players for kit and component sourcing arrangements. Sources say among those it has been talking to is Loncin, the second largest motorcycle maker in China with an annual production base of a million bikes. When contacted, the M&M spokesperson and officials refused to comment.

However, a top official said that M&M is looking to forge ‘alliances’ with several global players for products both at the top-end of the motorcycle /scooter market as well as at the middle and bottom end of the pyramid. These alliances will be crucial for the company to build its product base beyond the Kinetic range.

Mahindra-Kinetic Joint Venture bets on scooters

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

Mahindra Kinetic Scooters and Motorcycles, the newly formed joint venture between utility vehicle leader Mahindra & Mahindra and two-wheeler manufacturer Kinetic Motors, wants to roll out scooters and explore opportunities to become a volume player.

“We wish to launch at least two scooters in the first year of operation. The joint venture will continue to make Kinetic’s existing line of products. We have a capacity of 3-3.5 lakh units each and can be expanded by another 1.5 lakh units,” a source said.

Sulajja Motwani, managing director of Kinetic Motors, told The Telegraph, “We hope to become a volume player in the segments we operate. We will share more details once the due diligence process by Mahindra is over.”

Kinetic has a manufacturing facility at Pitampur in Madhya Pradesh where it produces about 90,000 units a year, including two-wheelers for export.

Sources say Mahindra-Kinetic will also foray into the performance segment of motorcycles. Pune-based Kinetic Motors currently sells its two 100cc bikes — the Shakti and the CK — both of which are meant for the rural market.

“Our aim is to become a volume player in the next three to four years in both the segments. In motorcycles, we will get into the performance segments (125cc and 150cc). Given Mahindra’s strong foothold in the rural market, we will tap it and try to price our products more competitively,” the source said.

Some of the products will carry a Mahindra-Kinetic logo. Last month, Mahindra announced the acquisition of Kinetic Motors. According to the agreement, Mahindra will pay Rs 110 crore to acquire the assets of Kinetic Motors. Mahindra will hold an 80 per cent stake in the new company, while the balance will be held by Kinetic.

Mahindra officials said the company would not take over the liabilities of Kinetic Motors, and the acquisition cost of Rs 110 crore was subject to the closing of due diligence.

Mahindra plans all-segment product rollout for two-wheeler drive

Thursday, August 7th, 2008

NEW DELHI: Charting an ambitious plan for the two-wheeler market after acquisition of Kinetic’s assets, Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) plans an aggressive product rollout, covering all segments of bikes including the intensely-competitive entry-level one, at present dominated by Hero Honda and Bajaj.

The company also plans to part-use the dealer network of M&M’s tractor and utility vehicle divisions to sell its two-wheelers, while looking at new product opportunities with Kinetic Motors’ existing partner Sang Yang Motors (SYM) of Taiwan.

Anoop Mathur, president of Mahindra’s newly-created two-wheeler vertical, said the company would launch new products and strengthen some of Kinetic’s existing ones. “We are currently working on our product strategy. And apart from Mahindra and Kinetic, we will also be tapping the domain knowledge of SYM while developing new products,” Mathur told.

Mathur, who joined the group early last year after a long stint with Hindustan Unilever, dismissed analysts who doubted M&M’s two-wheel ambitions because of intense competition. “We are not scared of competition but rather respect it. We have built our game plan, keeping in mind the competition and market dynamics,” he said.

Though not divulging the exact time frame of new launches, Mathur said the company planned to offer products – some of which would carry joint Mahindra-Kinetic badging – both in the scooter and motorcycle segments. “The intention is to be present across the product spectrum, from entry-level to executive to premium bikes,” he said, adding it was not the engine-size (cc) that would define categories in the future but rather the usage and deployment.

M&M has already said that scooters would be the entry point for its two-wheeler foray. Kinetic has products like the Flyte (125cc), Blaze (165cc) and Kinetic 4S (115cc) in the scooter segment, which could be used by M&M.

“Currently, Kinetic provides us with a ready network of 300 dealers and about 1000 service points. So it is not exactly an empty cup-board. And as we go forward, we have to commission more channel partners in the front-end of the business,” Mathur said.

Mahindra and Mahindra forms join venture with Kinetic Motors

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

MUMBAI: Mahindra & Mahindra, Kinetic Motors to form JV for manufacturing two-wheelers; M&M to hold 80 pc, Kinectic 20 pc in the JV.

Mahindra, India’s top utility vehicle and tractor maker, would hold an 80 per cent stake in the new firm, which would be called Mahindra Kinetic Ltd, with Kinetic holding the rest, the source said.

Talks between Mahindra & Mahindra and Kinetic Motor have been going on for quite some time now and the Mumbai-based auto major was reportedly carrying out due diligence to acquire the two-wheeler maker.

For Mahindra & Mahindra, the acquisition would pave way for entering into the two-wheeler business, the area it has been looking at for some time now.

Putting up a greenfield project is much more expensive and time-consuming than acquiring a ready-made firm like Kinetic Motor since it has been in business for over three decades. Besides, Kinetic offers a full product portfolio ranging from mopeds to scooters to motorcycles, sources said.

Kinetic Motor, however, was incurring losses for some years now. The company had recorded a net loss of Rs 18 crore in the fourth quarter ended March 31, 2008, slightly below from the third quarter of the previous fiscal when it had posted Rs 19.75-crore net loss.

Kinetic Motor’s promoters, the Firodia family, owns 54.83 per cent in the company. The firm needs funds to revamp its operations and it was looking for raising anything between USD 100-125 million.

Kinetic to forge alliance with Mahindras

Monday, July 28th, 2008

MUMBAI: Pune-based two-wheeler maker Kinetic Motor may not sell stake to Mahindra and Mahindra at all, and instead may go in for an alliance to cash in on the auto major’s huge network and expertise.

“The Kinetic Motor Board will meet on Wednesday and there the matter will come up for discussion. The company may not at all sell any stake to M&M, but forge an allaince with them,” sources close to the development told PTI.
