KTM to launch 200cc sports bike in India

Austrian sports bike maker KTM to launch new bikes in India. The company is planning to launch the bike in India at the Delhi Auto Expo 2012. KTM's plant is to develop a full range of four-stroke water-cooled naked bikes, in a joint venture with Indian bike giant Bajaj Auto Ltd. The bike, named Duke 200 has an engine capacity of 200cc. KTM is one of the best sports and off road motorcycle manufacturers in the world.

KTM Company was founded in 1934 by engineer Hans Trunkenpolz in Mattighofen, a small town in Austria. KTM is famous for 125cc and 250cc sports and off road motorcycles.

KTM has already launched the KTM Duke125cc bike jointly developed with Bajaj Auto and sold nearly 7,000 units in Europe. KTM is also planning to launch a 350cc bike jointly with Bajaj in 2013 for India. The new 200cc bike is almost similar in looks with125cc. The company's plan is to build cost effective bikes in India and export it to other countries in Asia and Europe.

Bajaj and KTM have been working very hard on this 200cc version of the KTM Duke. And they have developed an advanced technically sound engine and aerodynamic design with other modern features.

The KTM125cc model has already started manufacturing at Bajaj's Chakan plant. The new 200cc bike is also expected to be manufactured in the same plant. The Bajaj Auto has 40 percent share hold in KTM.



The new bike has a 200cc, 4 Stroke, DOHC, liquid cooled fuel injected single cylinder engine which delivers 22 bhp with 18nm torque. It also has a six speed gear box and weighs around 130 kg.

The KTM Duke 200 is a muscular naked bike with stunning looks, sporty color and graphics with rear and front disc brakes, dual muffler exhaust, alloys wheels, led tail lights with electric-starter, etc.

The new bike is said to have a price tag of 1.2 - 1.5 lakhs in India. The main competitors of the new bike will be Hero Honda Karizma and Bajaj Pulsar 200.
