BMW brand oozes so much of an enthusiasm amongst auto enthusiasts. The German auto major forayed into Indian market with its line up of premium bikes; you read that right.
Lately, the auto majors have been eyeing the high end bikes market in India which offers amazing potential and growth with demand for the bikes showing an upward trend. In this context BMW launched premium bikes in India that would be sold from the same BMW dealership outlets that are selling the high-end BMW cars.
Currently, there are three dealership outlets for the German automaker in the country: Navnit Motors in Mumbai and Bangalore, and Deutsche Motoren in New Delhi. The BMW bikes (as CBU or the completely built unit) will be imported from the company's plant in Berlin, Germany and come priced between Rs 18 and 25 lakhs, which is few lakhs shy from the company's cars. The high capacity bikes were launched during late 2010 and the company hopes to sell at least 50 bikes by this year end. Although it's an optimistic target considering the demand and the growth in the segment it should be achievable says a spokesperson from one of the outlets.
BMW motorrad's two wheeler line-up starts with the R 1200 R Naked Street and come with a hefty price tag of Rs 16,06,419 and it goes upward to Rs 29,35,187 for the HP 2 Sport full-faired sport bike. However, between the R 1200 R Naked Street and the HP 2 Sport there are 8 more models which also includes the R 1200 GS (dual purpose bike); the R 1200 GS Adv, S 1000 RR, the naked muscle bike K 1300 R, the sports tourer K 1300 S, and tourers that include R 1200 RT, K 1600 GT and K 1600 GTL. The best sellers though have been the S1000RR and R1200GS which caught the maximum attention.
In case you did not know, subject to the availability of the models there is a waiting period of one week to 12 weeks from booking to delivery. The dealers will import the models upon confirming the order.
