Victory Reveals Plans for 1200cc Motorcycle

Victory Motorcycles has announced a production version of the engine that powered Project 156.

The highly discussed Victory and Roland Sands Designs collaboration which took part in the 2015 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb this past June. Victory says the engine configuration will soon power its upcoming 1200cc class motorcycle. The engine, which was designed by European builder Urs Erbacher, was designed to be the true apex-predator of its class. Erbacher, who holds several titles in the European FIA drag racing titles, is no stranger to the world of custom motorcycle building. His bikes are aggressively styled, long swept, twin-powered machines that show an uncompromising attitude.

It seems fitting then that Erbacher’s concept, dubbed the “Victory Ignition Concept,” came from the mind of someone who has a knack for the extreme. The Ignition Concept has been built around the first pre-production engine off Victory’s line in Osceola, Wis. The Ignition concept has an aggressive stance to match its appearance, featuring a cast aluminium chassis, Ohlins suspension and Brembo brakes shows the emphasis on performance and it’s all done while sporting a Project 156 inspired livery.

“I’m proud not only of this build, but what it represents for the future of the Victory Motorcycles brand,” Erbacher says. “Getting full reigns to wrap the new engine in an interesting bike is a real highlight in my career, and from what I can see any production bike utilizing this powertrain will be a fantastic ride.”

Victory’s General Manager Rod Krois was also enthusiastic about the new line: “Project 156 is a purpose built racer that took our engine design to one of the most challenging races on the planet – it was a proving ground like no other that set the bar very high for our team. This engine platform will deliver on the promise of modern American muscle that is in the DNA of every current and future product we sell. Victory will continue to aggressively plot a new course for itself and where an American motorcycle brand can go.”

Steve Menneto, President of the Polaris Motorcycles Division, provided some insight to the future of Victory: “Our new engine, Urs’ concept and news we’ll be sharing at the IMS in New York City will plot the direction not only of this fantastic new platform, but of this brand. We will continue to design and build the best motorcycles in every class we compete.” With that in mind, perhaps will see even more, a foray into the world of racing and hopefully, that translates into consumer products that reflect a racing lineage. As of now, we know that the power-plant is a liquid cooled, four valve DOHC engine with a 60 degree V angle. Victory has promised that more details will be revealed in the months to come.
