Harley to Open Showrooms in Kolkata and Jaipur

World's leading premium motorcycle brand Harley Davidson is all set to open its eighth dealership in the country in Kolkata. Eyeing to expand company's sale to 40% outside the US market by 2014, Kolkata will be followed by Jaipur and Kochi showrooms.



"In the first quarter of 2012, the company will open a showroom in Kolkata. This will be followed by new showrooms at Jaipur and Kochi by the fourth quarter of the calendar year" said Harley Davidson India Director of Marketing Mr. Sanjay Tripathi. The necessity of premium bikes are being increased among youngsters and seems like HD makes use of it by spreading its wings to further cities including some rural remotes.



HD does have a current share of 35.7% outside the US market. Moreover Brazil and India are the only two plants other than US. "Gradually, we have been ramping up our operations. We have also been able to increase the number of models assembled in India to five. There is a latent demand for our bikes in smaller towns across India apart from metros. So we will be going there" added Tripathi.

At first, the company used to assemble only its 'Superflow', 'Iron 883' and 'Forty Eight' models at the Bawal plant, in Haryana, but as HD's necessity was increased the brand was forced to assemble its highly selling 5 models among 15 superbikes available in India. "Any move would depend on market demand, just as in the case of the recent decision by the company to assemble two of its models, 'Street Bob' and 'Super Glide Custom', in the country" Tripathy replied when he was asked whether the company would assemble more models in India.
