2011 Indonesian two wheeler market passes 8 million units mark

Indonesia, a fast growing two wheeler economy in India, is announcing globally that they are becoming bigger and bigger as the years pass by. Currently, they are the world's third largest two wheeler market.

Indonesian two wheeler market has crossed landmark figure of 8 million two wheeler sales in the year 2011 which is a great achievement. More than 8.04 million units were sold in the year 2011 registering growth of 8.7% compared to last year when it sold 7.4 million units.

This big sales however missed the target set by Indonesian Motorcycle Industry Association (AISI). "We exchange a large number of components with Thailand, so the floods really affected local producers, especially in the last months of the year. We still predict that our domestic motorcycle sales can still grow more than 10 percent to 9 million units." said AISI chairman Gunadi Sindhuwinata.

He added that "Sales in Jakarta and its surrounds will be generated from customers getting new motorcycles to replace their old ones. Sales growth will rely heavily in areas outside Java and people with better income enabled by hikes in commodity prices will drive the demand."
