Honda bi-wheelers have created a new milestone in the country's two wheeler market. As per the latest sales figures from SIAM (Society Of Indian Automobile Manufacturers) it is the number one brand in 11 states and two union territories for the first quarter of FY 2015-2016 which contribute 33 % to the industry. According to the Honda Motorcycles President & CEO, Mr. Keita Muramatsu, Honda grew 50% faster than the industry at 22%. Not only that Honda crosses the 5 lakh units mark for the first time in Indian market.
The introduction of Activa onto the Indian market 15 years ago had kick started the scooter revolution in the country. And today Activa is the number one selling two-wheeler in India. From the SIAM figures the Japanese brand is number one in states like; Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, Gujarat, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Goa, Manipur, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Delhi and 2 Union Territories (Chandigarh, Andaman & Nicobar Islands). Honda's total market share is over 50% in Chandigarh, Goa, Manipur; over 40% in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Arunachal Pradesh, Andaman & Nicobar Islands; over 30% in Punjab, Karnataka, Kerala, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Nagaland.
The emerging trend of automatic scooters in India has also increased the Honda's market share, as because the top two best selling scooters are from the Honda family. Honda leads the scooter segment with a whooping 58% of market share. And more interesting fact is that rise of scooter industry is mainly from the motorcycle dominated states.
According to the latest figures of SIAM, Honda listed as a No.1 bike manufacturer in most of the states from the sales figures of fiscal year 2015-16.
