DSK-Hyosung to Launch 125cc-150cc Sports Bikes

125cc-150cc bikes will be manufacturer in new plant.

South Korean premium motorcycle manufacturer, Hyosung and its Indian authorised dealer DSK Motowheels are jointly planning to introduce 125cc-150cc sportbikes for India. For that DSk-Motowheels might establish a new pant where the 125cc-150cc motorcycles can be manufactured. Currently, Hyosung has a plant in Pune, Maharashtra, where Complete Knocked Down (CKD) is done for all Hyosung machines in India. However, the new plant is to produce new machines and the machines are likely to be exported to other foreign motorcycle markets. Well, the new production house is also expected to be built in Maharashtra itself.

At present, Hyosung sells an average of 150 motorcycles in Indian, which is really a good number considering its price range. Notwithstanding, Hyosung is not satisfied with this result. Because, the company wants to reach the masses with low cost bikes. The firm knows India is the best place to market low cost sports bikes and thus plans to build up a motorcycle manufacturing factory in India.

According to the management, the all new production plant will be risen up in Maharashtra in a 100 acre land. The company will be investing an estimated amount of around Rs.300 crore to Rs.350 crore. A tally of 250 bikes per month will be given birth in the production house. These machine will also be exported to other countries.

Unlike the other bikes, the new two-wheelers which will be produced in the new plant will be branded as 'DSK-Hyosung' rather than mere 'Hyosung'. So, with this DSK is proclaiming their entry to motorcycle production rather than simply being a dealer for a multinational motorcycle company.

"We are planning to invest around Rs 300-Rs 350 crore for setting up our second plant in Maharashtra. Mostly we will be finalising the 100-acre land in Maharashtra itself. It will be highly automated plant with a paint shop. Probably the construction should commence in six to eight months from now," said DSK Motowheels Managing Director, Mr. Shirish Kulkarni.

Well, this news has already turned out to be a real challenge for its rivals Honda and Yamaha, as the new 125cc-150cc sport machines of DSK-Hyosung are supposed to head with the CBR 150R and the R15, which are the best selling motorcycles in this segment.

Hyosung has already 125cc motorcycles in production. So if it is the 125cc bike that is built in India, it might be mated with the same 125cc, DOHC 8 valve oil cooled engine. The engine is capable to produce maximum power of 14.2 hp @ 10500 rpm.
