Mahi Racing as Sponsor of Kawasaki in 2013 WSBK

Mahi Racing Team India became the first Indian brand to sponson a team in WSBK.

As it was announced earlier, Mahi Racing Team India sponsored the Kawasaki Racing Team in the opening round of the 2013 FIM World Superbike Championship held at Philip Island, Australia, on February 24, 2013. With this, Mahi Racing became the first Indian brand to sponsor a team in World Superbike Championship.

"This new initiative makes sense because of the TV coverage that the superbike class gets. Superpole 1, 2 and 3 at each race, plus the two races themselves. Back home in India the coverage of Superbike is more than for Supersport right now so that is why we put a sponsorship amount into the KRT team," said Amit Sandill, Team Principal of the Kawasaki Mahi Racing Team India.

The logo of Mahi Racing got displayed well on the Kawasaki ZX-10R bikes in the first round of 2013 WSBK. Three of the ZX-10R machines were ridden by world class racers, Tom Sykes of UK, Loriz Baz of France and Federico Sandi of Italy. In the first race, Sykes secured 5th place, while Baz could make 6th spot, whereas Sandi was far behind to finish at 16th position.

Since WSBK has a good number of fans and viewership world wide, it is always a safe business to invest in it. The Mahi Racing Team India is owned by the Indian Cricket team Captian, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and South Indian Superstar, Nagarjua Akkinenni. The team which participates in the World Super Sport championship (WSS) in the 600cc class racing debuted last year. The Kawasaki ZX-6R is the official machine of the team. The Mahi Racing has contracted with former Champions Kenan Sofuoglu from Turkey and Fabien Foret from France to ride for it this season.

"We are happy to welcome Mahi on board for the Australian round. For this race, it will be an extension of the big and very good project they are building in Supersport. We will try to give them positive results in this first race and show their brand all over the world, supporting as much we can the Supersport category with Kenan and Fabien as well," said Guim Roda, Manager of the Kawasaki Racing Team.

At the opening match taken place in Phili Island, on 24th February 2013, Sylvain Guintoli from France and Eugene Laverty from Ireland grabbed the first two spots. Both are of Aprilia RSV4 Factory team. Meanwhile, Michel Fabrizio earned the third place.
