TVS Akula was displayed at the Auto Expo 2016 as a concept model to signify the 33 years of TVS Racing heritage. This bike has been built around BMW G 310 R platform, wrapped in a carbon fiber body. But the TVS has only showcased the racing version of this 300cc class motorbike.
It sits on a 313cc, water cooled, 4-stroke, single cylinder engine with 4 valves and double overhead cams. It delivers 33.6 bhp power @ 9500 rpm and a peak torque of 28 Nm @ 7500 rpm. This engine is mated with a 6-speed manual gearbox. Like the BMW G 310 R, this bike also features upside down forks at the front and cast alloy swing arm for the rear suspension. This concept version features adjustable suspension and a steering damper, which may not feature in the production model. A four piston, radially bolted fixed caliper engages with a 300 mm single disc plate at the front and 240 mm single disc using a single-piston floating calipers undertakes the stopping force of this bike.
The black carbon fiber version with red Trellis frame was the only model, which was unveiled at the expo. Therefore more variants of this TVS is unknown. TVS Akula will bring out a serious challenge to the main rivals like, KTM RC390,Kawasaki Ninja 300 and Yamaha R3.
